Evidence is piling up that points to Intercept Games, developer of Kerbal Space Program 2, being shut down by parent company Take-Two.

While no official announcement has been made regarding Intercept's closure, at least two Intercept employees have set their LinkedIn pages to the "open to work" setting, and another has posted on X (formerly Twitter) about being laid off.

As Reddit user SquirrelMince notes, job listings on the company's website also appear to be broken links, which could be an indication that those jobs are no longer available.

Intercept Games is perhaps best-known for Kerbal Space Program 2.

Perhaps most damningly, as spotted by ResetEra user Tsunami561, Intercept's parent company Take-Two recently filed a notice involving the closure of an employer with around 70 staffers.

The notice pertains to a company with headquarters in Seattle, which is where Intercept Games bases itself. Layoffs are set to begin on June 28th, according to that notice.

Granted, none of this is conclusive evidence; neither Take-Two nor Intercept Games have announced anything regarding the studio's closure in an official capacity. Still, there's a lot of circumstantial evidence to suggest that Intercept may not be long for this world, unfortunately.

We may never see Kerbal Space Program 2 finished.

Intercept Games was formed as an internal Take-Two studio back in early 2020. The company was created with the express purpose of working on Kerbal Space Program 2, so the space sim is the studio's only game.

After several years in development, Kerbal Space Program 2 was finally released via Early Access last year, but it hasn't exactly been received rapturously among its player base.

At time of writing, Kerbal Space Program 2 is sitting at a "Mixed" rating on Steam across nearly 18,000 reviews, with 223 recent reviews also carrying the "Mixed" tag overall.

Reviewers point to a slow update pace, a lack of improvement over the original Kerbal Space Program, and a lack of content, although some positive reviews say recent updates have improved the experience.

Despite Intercept's apparent shutdown, it seems Take-Two intends to continue supporting the game. In a statement given to Game Developer, Take-Two says Private Division "continues to make updates to Kerbal Space Program 2", suggesting that Intercept's potential demise won't stop the game's development.

If you're interested in checking Kerbal Space Program 2 out, it's available right now on Steam and the Epic Games Store.
