Dealing with Facehuggers is going to be a little more challenging at the higher Aliens: Fireteam difficulty levels. Playing at a higher difficulty will turn off some helpful UI elements — and turn on friendly fire.

Aliens: Fireteam is an upcoming co-op shooter from Cold Iron Studios that was officially announced earlier this year. The gameplay we've seen thus far looks pretty good, but it looks like your team of three players is going to have a tough time surviving. Things will get even tougher if you decide to play on a higher difficulty level, too.

The Higher Difficulties of Aliens: Fireteam Makes Facehuggers a Major Problem

Aliens: Fireteam is going to have a lot of enemies to deal with, but one in particular would likely be much harder to deal with once friendly fire is turned on: the Facehugger.

"At higher levels of difficulty, acid does a lot more damage," Aliens: Fireteam Creative Director Matt Highison told Gamespot's Jordan Ramée during its Play For All Showcase. "So you have to worry about even killing xenomorphs with a shotgun up close. Friendly fire turns on. [There are fewer] user interface helpers present and we really ratchet up the simulation and the difficulty there."

"If you have a Facehugger on you, you're able to do a little minigame to escape from it," he continued.

"You do have to think about exactly whether or not now is the right time to shoot my friend in the face when you're playing with friendly fire [on]," added Cold Iron Studios CEO Craig Zinkievich.

Turning friendly fire on makes things tough enough at is, but the removal of "UI helpers" could add a serious additional level of difficulty to what already looks like a pretty challenging game. We don't know exactly what this would look like, but certain elements of the UI (such as the motion sensor) would make things much harder if they were disabled.

Aliens: Fireteam is shaping up to be a pretty solid shooter. For now, you can add it to your wishlist on Steam and learn more about the game on its official website.

What do you think of Aliens: Fireteam turning on friendly fire for higher difficulties? Do you think this game will be one of the better releases for the Aliens franchise? Let us know in the comments below!
