Reigns developer Nerial and Devolver Digital have announced Card Shark during today's Nintendo Indie World Showcase, an upcoming game where you swindle 18th-century French nobles by cheating at card games.

Curious about this strange game? Check out the Card Shark announcement trailer to get a feel for its vibe and bask in its lovely art style:

18th-century high society didn't have much in the way to do for fun. Sure, there was the occasional ball or party, but you had a lot of time to fill in the day. Plenty of high-society folks enjoyed playing card games, and you will, too — the only difference being that you're trying to cheat them out of their money.

Card Shark will teach you real-world card tricks and other forms of deception. You'll have to be quite careful, though — get caught cheating and you'll get blown away by your opponent right there at the table. Unless they're feeling generous — then they'll drag you off into a side room and shoot you in the back of the head.

Nerial has a fair amount of experience making card games with the Reigns titles, so they're sure to leverage their talents here in an interesting way. There's a lot we still don't yet know about this game, but the concept certainly seems intriguing.

When is the Card Shark Release Date?

Card Shark seems like a pretty good approach to the theme of cheating at card games — when will you be able to play it?

The Card Shark release date hasn't yet been announced, but it should be launching on PC and Nintendo Switch sometime in 2021 according to a press release from the publisher. No price has been announced. In the meantime, you can find out more about this upcoming title at cardsharkgame.com and add Card Shark to your wishlist on Steam.
