Today Destiny 2's developer announced that the upcoming expansion titled The Final Shape has been delayed by a few months.

The expansion was supposed to launch on February 27, 2024, but it will instead arrive just in time for the summer, on June 4.

The developer mentions in the official announcement that it has decided to take the time required to "deliver an even bigger and bolder vision, one that we hope will be remembered and treasured for years to come."

Cayde-6 will return in Destiny 2: The Final Shape

With the Season of the Wish coming tomorrow, November 28, it'll extend until the launch of The Final Shape, which will certainly make for a very long season. That being said, this doesn't mean that players will be left without new content to enjoy.

In February, players will be able to enjoy new weekly progression-based quests called Wishes alongside Moments of Triumph, which will bring unique rewards. Guardian Games will be moved up to March and the focus will be shifted to class versus class competition.

In April, guardians will get a new content update titled "Destiny 2: Into the Light," intended to "prepare players for their Guardian’s journey into the Traveler." Three new PvP maps will also be released in May.

New gameplay of The Final Shape will be showcased in April, a couple of months before the expansion launches.

This follows a round of layoffs that impacted Bungiecausing the departure of 100 employees. According to a report by Bloomberg, this delay will also be accompanied by another affecting Bungie's upcoming extraction shooter Marathon, which would be shifted into 2025.

At the moment, said delay has not been officially confirmed, but it certainly looks more probable now. Of course, we'll keep an eye on the situation and we'll let you know as soon as Bungie announces something officially.
