FF7 Remake Part 2 delays cover

While fans have been enjoying the remastered adventures of Cloud and his friends, we're still waiting on the FF7 Remake Part 2. Unfortunately, the development of this next part is running the risk of being delayed thanks to challenges brought on by the global pandemic.

Thus far, the first part of the game had already suffered a delay until April 2020. This announcement was made in mid-January 2020, and then the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Despite the new challenges brought on by this virus, the first part of the FF7 Remake still managed to make its launch date.

The first part of the game only covers the team's adventures in Midgar; longtime fans of the original are well aware that there's much more to explore. Part 2 promises to finally let us play Red XIII, although we shouldn't expect any massive changes to the game's story.

No release date for the second part has been announced just yet, but there is one concern on that front: there may be a delay in its launch.

FF7 Remake Part 2 Development Slowed by Work-From-Home Policies

"I am pained and saddened to see so many people around the world suffering with the virus and even losing their lives," Square Enix Producer Yoshinori Kitase told The Guardian. "When we set the release date for the game, nobody could have predicted a global pandemic like this, and the release of the game happening during this unprecedented situation has blindsided us."

Despite these challenges, the first part still managed to launch on time. The second part, however, could end up facing some kind of delay, although Yoshinori Kitase isn't overly concerned with the impact.

"At this current time, the team are still making the next game via remote working," Kitase continued. "Our performance will temporarily drop below 100% efficiency because of this, but I do not think there should be a big impact in the long term. I sincerely hope that Final Fantasy VII Remake can provide those who are forced to endure the stress of living under lockdown a moment of relief and enjoyment in these trying times."

Our best guess is that we'll be able to play the FF7 Remake Part 2 sometime later in 2021 at the earliest. If you haven't yet played this great PS4 game, you can buy a physical copy of the first part of the FF7 Remake on Amazon for $49.94 or your regional equivalent, a 17% discount off of its normal price. Otherwise, you can pick it up digitally at its full price of $59.99 on the PlayStation Store.
