Late last week, the Nintendo Gigaleak was cast out into the Internet. Many new discoveries have already been made, and one of the more interesting ones is the lost Animal Crossing villager Cat13.

As with most games, the original Animal Crossing had content that never made it into the final version of the game. Kotaku reports on one of these discoveries uncovered by a developer calling himself TV: an Animal Crossing villager that we've never seen before.

TV discovered an unused texture file for the character. Since Animal Crossing is pretty darn old, it wasn't too difficult for TV to apply the texture to the model and stick it into the game as seen in our header image.

Although all games go through a prototype phase, Animal Crossing was the first in the franchise. A lot had yet to be decided, so it's understandable that there are more than a few pieces of cut content contained within the game's files. Hell, Animal Crossing almost had soldiers, believe it or not.

Will We See More Beyond the Lost Animal Crossing Villager Cat13?

It's been less than a week since the Nintendo Gigaleak and the discovery of the lost Animal Crossing villager Cat13 is only the beginning. TV has already uncovered more content for the original Animal Crossing. Here are some highlights:

  • Two characters named Soldier and Soldier 2 were cut.
  • Early versions of Blathers and Wisp were in the first game.
  • Maple almost had a (near) unibrow.
  • An entire NES emulator is built into the game's source code.
  • Some of the internal code names are hilarious. For example, Gulliver is internally referred to as "drowned body."

We're sure to see tons more discoveries from TV and other programmers in the coming weeks and months as they dig through the Nintendo Gigaleak, although it's unlikely we'll discover any new stuff about Animal Crossing: New Horizons itself. For now, you can follow TV on Twitter and possibly see even more cut content make an appearance in the future.
