Bethesda has announced a new Fallout 4 update for next week, so get ready to batten down the hatches and brace yourself, especially if you're a modder or you play a lot of Fallout 4 mods.

The update was revealed earlier today in a post on X (formerly Twitter). In that post, Bethesda is ominously vague about exactly what the Fallout 4 update will entail, other than that it will bring nebulous "improvements".

According to Bethesda, the update will include "new options for graphics and performance settings", and it'll also bring "further fixes" to Fallout 4. We'll likely learn more about what these fixes are when the update drops on Monday.

If a stranger approaches you and offers you a Fallout 4 update, just say no.

Bethesda says the update will be coming to "all platforms", so presumably, we'll be getting new visual and performance options on console as well as PC.

That's also likely to include next-gen consoles, since Fallout 4 finally arrived on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S recently after a prolonged delay for that particular long-awaited update.

Unfortunately, that release also coincided with an update intended to bring Fallout 4 into the modern era on PCs, and lo and behold, it broke a vast amount of mods for the game. All together now: oh, Bethesda.

The issue was bad enough that two of the most popular mods on Fallout 4's Nexus Mods page are aimed at reverting the game back to its pre-updated state, although that might be about to get even more difficult with the upcoming update.

Better hope Fallout 4 doesn't break again when its upcoming update lands.

Fallout is enjoying something of a resurgence as a franchise right now, thanks mostly to the success of the recent Amazon Prime Video series, for which a second season has already been greenlit.

The uptick in Fallout's popularity has resulted in renewed interest in games like Fallout 4, as well as mobile game Fallout Shelter, multiplayer survival shooter Fallout 76, and even older titles like Fallout: New Vegas.

You can check out Fallout 4's new update when it lands on Monday, which is also when we'll get patch notes for said update. Stay tuned for more.
