Thunderful Publishing and developer Wishfully have announced a Planet of Lana release date. The painterly sci-fi puzzle-platformer will arrive on PC and Xbox on May 23rd, which is just a few weeks away, and it'll also be available on Game Pass on day one.

In a new release date trailer, Wishfully shows off some of Planet of Lana's emotive storytelling, which looks heavily inspired by games like Ori and the Blind ForestIco, and Heart of Darkness. The trailer is more evocative than informative; there's not much gameplay to see here, but you can get a feel for the art style and vibe Planet of Lana is going for. Here's the trailer for your enjoyment.

On the official Planet of Lana Steam page, Wishfully describes the game as a "cinematic puzzle adventure framed by an epic sci-fi saga that stretches across centuries and galaxies". You'll get the chance to explore a planet that was once the apex of harmony between humanity, machines, and animals, but that harmony has been disturbed by a "faceless army".

As you play, you'll use the unique relationship between Lana and her companion Mui to explore your surroundings and solve puzzles. You'll also come up against enemies and hazards, which you'll need to navigate using "stealth and wit", according to Wishfully. If you've got a cinematic platforming itch, then it looks like Planet of Lana will scratch it; if you've been yearning for games that call back to classics like Flashback (which is getting a sequel soon) and Out of This World, then your day has come.

Planet of Lana will be available for PC (via Steam, Epic, and GOG) and Xbox consoles later this year. You'll also be able to enjoy it at no extra cost if you're an Xbox Game Pass or PC Game Pass subscriber. Stay tuned for more info on Planet of Lana, as well as future projects by Wishfully and Thunderful Publishing.
