Animal Well Matches and Candles - All Locations

While searching through the many rooms of Animal Well you're likely to come across a match or two and candles to light. Not only are these candles important to keep scary monsters at bay but lighting them all gives you access to an incredibly important item and an Achievement/Trophy. 

In this guide, we'll cover where to obtain all nine matches in Animal Well and where to use them too!

Collecting every match and candle is just a small part of the puzzle that will lead you to the Animal Well ultimate endgame. You'll also want to collect all of the Secret Eggs as well as keep your eye out for other obtainable items.

All 9 Animal Well Match Locations

1. Starting Area Match
   From the Save Room in the starting region of the game head left to the room with the first platform you can raise. Cross over the water to the left side and just after the door you open jump up and you'll reveal a hidden space with a Match inside.
    
2. Fish Mural Room
   Head left from the central chamber, past the penguin topiary, and into the room with the fish mosaic tile on the back. There's a chest in the center of this room. Inside is another Match.
    
3. Above Egg Room
   From the Egg Room go out to the right and up one screen. You'll see a togglable wall to the right. When it is open go inside and throw the disc at the switch on the right. Once it has flipped a wall will open slightly below you with another Match in it.
    
4. Next to the Upper Well Shaft
   To the right of the Save Room with the Dog statues in the upper left of the map exit to the right. Step on the switch to open the two gateways and jump across the moving elevator. Travel down the ladder to reach this Match.
    
5. Exploding Room
   This Match is found in a chest two above the exit to the Egg Room but to access it you need to reach the room via a fishhead tunnel.
    
6. Alternating Wall Maze
   Travel up the shifting waterfall in the upper left portion of the map. You'll reach a maze of alternating walls and floors. The match can be found in the lower left chest.
    
7. Dark Jungle Room
   This match chest is in the same room as the dark Save Room in the Jungle. This Match is on the path of the standard way to solve this area of the map so you'll run into it.
    
8. Spike Room
   From the central area go right until you are in the room past the Bunny Mural. Use your Yoyo to hit the switch and drop down. Collect the chest on the right of this dark room to get this Match.
    
9. Dark Pit Side-Room
   You can see this Match chest from the pit you fall into to obtain the Yoyo. To reach it follow the path until you get to the Giraffe room and travel to the left. Inside this next room use your Bubble to reach a hidden space in the top left for this Match.

All 9 Animal Well Candle Locations

1. Starting Area Candle
   The first candle you run across is two rooms to the right of the starting area Save Point. Here is where an enemy will spawn. Go to the room above via the ladder, then travel to the left to drop into a space where you can reach the Candle.
    
2. Dark Room Near Burrow
   In the bottom right of the map from the Animal Burrow go two rooms to the right to find a room with a candle.
    
3. Three Enemy Room
   From the Capybara Heart Save Room travel down two rooms and then to the right. You'll reach a room with three enemies that appear. In the center of this room is a candle.
    
4. Alternating Wall Maze
   From the waterfall with the alternating platforms in the upper left of the map go up one screen to get to the alternating wall maze. Where a match was in the lower left of the maze the candle is in the middle right.
    
5. Dark Room On Path to Mock Disc
   To the left of the lower Save Room in the upper left portion of the map there's a dark room where an enemy spawns. There is a candle in the upper right of this room.
    
6. Deep Cave Candle Rooms
   In the far northwest of the map, after you've obtained the Disc but before you reach the Bear Head Warp Door there are three candle rooms that are back to back to back.
   From the grass dog bowl with the two statues, there's a candle in the room below, a candle in the room two to the left of that, and then a candle in the room one above that one.

9. Penguin Switch Room
   After making it to the deeper portion of the Lower Left area of the map you'll reach a save room with a penguin statue. Follow the path out the top-right of the room around until you reach the room with three penguin switches. Leave this room through the top-right to find a candle.

Animal Well Candles Reward

Now that you've lit all of the candles you'll earn an Achievement/Trophy for doing so. There's an additional surprise for you as well if you return to the room to the left of where you started the game.
